History

Holloway Hall Social Room Revitalization

The Vision
Holloway Hall has been the center of the student experience since 1925. As the first building on campus, it has stood as a symbol of excellence while having the practicality of being everything to everyone at the birth of the Teachers College. The Social Room was part of the final phase of the building’s construction, opening in December 1932. It's appearance has changed very little in the nearly century since its completion.

The Need
As SU approaches its Centennial, investment in the enhancement of Holloway Hall’s Social Room is needed to expand programming offerings and to provide a more welcoming area for all who visit, including alumni, faculty, staff, students, donors and community members.

In Memory of Deane Deshon

Please consider a gift today in memory of Deane Deshon, one of Sea Gull baseball's founders and a pillar of Salisbury athletics.

"Coach Deshon took me under his wing in 1994. He embraced and empowered me as an assistant baseball coach at then-Salisbury State University," said Robb Disbennett, Assistant Head Coach of the football team. "I loved every minute of coaching with him, learning the game of baseball on an entirely different level and perspective. [He] loved coaching and cared deeply for his players. He treated everyone with dignity and respect.”

Deshon, a 1998 inductee into the Salisbury Athletics Hall of Fame, led the SU baseball program for 34 years, compiling a 553-446-12 record with five NCAA Tournament appearances and four NAIA bids. In 1995, Deshon was named Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the year. He also earned two NAIA District Baseball Coach of the Year awards and was named the 1977 NCAA Division III Baseball Coach of the Year. He retired as the 13th-winningest baseball coach in NCAA Division III history.

Deshon was widely recognized for his leadership of both the baseball and basketball programs. He served as the head coach of the basketball program for eight years and spent several years as the Director of Athletics while teaching classes during his tenure. He was named the 1967 Maryland Intercollegiate Basketball Coach of the Year.

Your gift will help fund a recognition display for Coach Deshon and also support Sea Gull baseball.
