🗲⚡ Flash Fundraiser for Nationally Competitive Fellowships 🗲⚡
The Nationally Competitive Fellowships Office is fundraising to cover the cost of application fees and stipends, ensuring that all SU students, regardless of financial barriers, have access to life-changing fellowship opportunities. Thanks to a generous matching gift, every donation will be doubled (up to $3,000 total)!
Fellowships are merit-based monetary awards that support a wide range of transformative academic and professional experiences around the world. The NCF office recruits, advises, and prepares students to compete, offering guidance on over 25 fellowships, including the Fulbright Scholarship, NSF Fellowship, Marshall Scholarship, Rhodes Scholarship, and Goldwater Scholarship, among others.
Participating in the application process for these awards provides students with valuable skills and experiences, from developing strong personal statements to engaging in rigorous research and interviews. Receiving a fellowship can open doors to advanced study, international travel, and unique professional opportunities, shaping the future leaders of tomorrow.
Join us in empowering SU students to achieve their dreams and make a global impact. Our goal is $6,000, and your gift will help us get there!
Hear from our Students!
Over the last five years, during my undergraduate education and as an alumna, I have received invaluable and exceptional mentorship from Dr. Walton as I applied for several nationally competitive fellowships. Under the guidance of Dr. Walton, I learned how to craft compelling personal statements which allowed me gain research experiences abroad through the DAAD research internship in science and engineering and Fulbright grant. Dr. Walton used inductive learning, having me read through examples of successful applications and improve draft after draft of my personal statements, ultimately teaching me how to create successful applications on my own. Through working with Dr. Walton on nearly ten different nationally competitive fellowship applications, I learned lasting skills that I used to successfully attain positions in graduate programs, such as my current graduate program in Life Science Informatics, as well as further competitive grants, such as the DAAD grant which currently funds my research project in Bonn, Germany.

“Sometimes the learning experience is the application process itself, and there’s value in applying even if you don’t win. I would strongly encourage any student to work with SU’s Nationally Competitive Fellowships Office to apply for anything and everything they can. You never know how far you get until you try, and you’re constantly improving the quality of your work along the way.”
