Coach Mike McGlinchey Endowment

Coach Mike McGlinchey is revered for the dedication he had to his players both on and off the football field. He was loved and highly respected by students, athletes, faculty, staff, and members of the community at large for his unmatched intensity, discipline, and commitment to excellence. He shaped the confidence and character of hundreds of young student-athletes, extending beyond the sport itself, and he upheld this commitment through the end of his life, when he passed away in 1997 after a long fight with ALS.

He embodied the spirit of overcoming adversity, rising to one’s maximum potential and never fearing to take on greater challenges. His passion motivated athletes to attain a level of performance they otherwise would not have envisioned; and through his integrity, character, and legacy, he stands as a strong role model for coaches and student-athletes at Salisbury University.

All the proceeds from the Coach Mike McGlinchey Endowment will help fund coaching positions and professional development opportunities for new coaches looking to advance in the profession. Please take this opportunity to honor the impact Coach McGlinchey has had on so many lives over the years and make your gift today!

Learn about our First Recipient Joey Vaughan ‘21!

A native of Northern Virginia, Vaughan attended Oakton High School, where he excelled in both football and baseball. Upon graduation in 2015, he enrolled at Penn State University for two years, then transferred to Salisbury University. Injuries, however, cut short his attempts at collegiate football, and upon graduation from SU, he dedicated himself to pursuing a career in coaching football.

Vaughan joined the SU Football Program in 2021 as a video coordinator and general assistant. Because of his hard work, dedication, and commitment to the organization, players, and coaches, he was selected as an assistant coach through the Mike McGlinchey Memorial Endowment Fund. In 2022 and 2023, he was promoted to assistant coach for defensive backs and safeties and was instrumental in helping the Sea Gulls clinch the 2022 NJAC Conference. During those two seasons, Vaughan also played a key role in the development of All-Conference Defensive Back AJ Butler and All-American Defensive Back Caleb Brubaker.

For the upcoming 2024 season, Vaughan will be joining Head Coach Anthony Van-Curen and the Fairleigh Dickinson University Devils football staff as a full-time assistant coach with responsibilities as pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach. FDU plays in the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic (MAC) Conference. Last season, FDU finished 5-5. They are optimistic for the growth and development of their program. We are confident that Vaughan will bring the dedication, discipline, and winning culture he developed at SU under coaches Sherman Wood ’84 and Robb Disbennett ’86.
